President and CEO

Wayne Maddever received his Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Toronto. He began his career with Praxair in both the US and Canada where he held positions in research and development, product management and sales management. He has experience with equipment manufacture having served as General Manager of a printing press manufacturer and as COO of an aerospace machining company.

Dr. Maddever has considerable experience in the plastics industry having been involved with an early form of starch based degradable plastic and as President of Resource Plastics, one of the first and largest, post-consumer plastics waste recycling facilities in North America. Most recently Dr. Maddever was CEO of Watson Brown HSM Ltd. a UK venture capital financed company with novel rubber recycling technology and commercial operations in Germany and Canada.

Dr. Maddever currently is Chair of Polar Sapphire and a Director of Hy-Power Nano, both advanced materials companies.. He holds several patents and is the author of numerous technical papers in several different fields and is co-author of a textbook on degradable plastics.


Chief Operating Officer

As COO Ian is responsible for all aspects of Business Development, Technology Development, Production and Logistics, and with the CEO, Strategy Development. Ian joined GreenCore early in 2013 as VP of Business and Technology Development. Ian has over 25 years of experience in the Plastics industry with BASF and CIBA in senior roles including Global Business Management, Global Strategic Projects, Global Contract Management, Regional Sales Management and Regional Product Management. Ian has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, and an MSc from the University of Guelph.


Dr. Sain is Director of the Centre for Biocomposites and Biomaterials Processing, Faculty of Forestry, University of Toronto. He is also cross-appointed to the Department of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Sain is the lead inventor of platform technology licensed to GreenCore. His research areas include nano-biocomposite processing, industrial bioplastics, and developing cost effective technology to use renewable raw materials for industrial products. He also works on isolation and surface science of cellulose nanofibres and is leader of the AUTO21 Renewable Materials project. Dr. Sain has several patents in the area of natural fibre composites, has published over 170 refereed journal papers, and recently co-edited a book on Cellulose Nano-biocomposites published by Oxford Press. Dr. Sain serves as a board member of the Canadian Natural Composites Council (CNCC).



Peter, having joined GrowthWorks Atlantic Ltd. in 2006 as the Regional Investment Manager for New Brunswick, now serves an expanded role within the investment team as Vice President Investments. He brings a depth of experience executing corporate development transactions and conducting financial planning and analysis. Prior to joining GrowthWorks, Peter held increasingly senior positions with large corporations (Teletech, TCI Communications) and start-up companies (Covad Communications, Barrett Xplore) in the United States and Canada.

Peter is using his knowledge of leading investments, acquiring companies, and establishing joint ventures to help GrowthWorks Atlantic Venture Fund expand its investment portfolio throughout the Atlantic provinces.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. In addition to his portfolio company responsibilities for the Atlantic Fund, Peter serves on the Board of Directors of Lymbix, MedRunner Health Solutions, Enovex Technologies, MultiCorpora, and Acentify. He is also Past-Chair of the Board of the Fredericton Community Foundation.
